Harlock Hill
Britain's first co-operatively owned wind power project at Harlock Hill is situated near Ulverston in Cumbria, on an open stretch of windswept farmland overlooking Morecambe Bay.
Harlock Hill is a 2.5 MW wind farm and consists of 5 Wind World turbines, each rated at 500kW. These machines produce enough clean electricity each year to meet the average needs of 1,100 typical homes.
Annually this will offset the emissions of around 5,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide, the main contributor to global warming and climate change, which would otherwise have been released from conventional fossil fuel.
The land continues to be used for grazing and silage.
